DESCRIPTION

Parkour Chasers is a PvP game about a Chase Tag Tournament in the multiverse. Players choose their favourite character with their own magic abilities to face a Bo3 match and climb the rankings.

Gameplay design

Base movement

Players can run, jump, slide and dive. To get a higher pacing and make a more skill-based game, the running system is based on a progressive acceleration while running straight forward nerfed by a slow down when turning.

Balancing

A lot of playtest combined with maths led us to a good character balance in which it's possible to have better or worse match-ups according to the characters facing off and the equipped abilities.

Camera

We had to balance two contrasting needs:

  • Make the camera enjoayable for both players

  • Have a single camera for both players

After a lot of testing, we implemented an isometric camera combined with UI/UX elements to help players navigate the environment, such as colored dots under players in the air and characters overlays behind objects. This was accomplished thanks to a thorough study of references of both isometric and 3D platform games.

Tutorial

The tutorial introduce to players the whole movement system step by step in a specific linear map which is fully navigable back and forth. It ends introducing the abilities system which can be tested against a patrolling enemy.

Level Design

Modular objects

The basic gameplay objects such as stairs, boxes, bridges, etc. are fully modular and re-skinnable in order to  artistically fit to any maps' theme

Size

Each map is the result of level design studies in order to ensure a full playability of the map in the time of a round

Uniqueness

Each map has its special feature strictly, linked to the map's theme, which generates different playstyles

Arenas' unique features

Character Design

Active skills

Each character has 2 different skills which can be used by pressing the provided button but it can be equipped only one per match

Passive skills

Each character has an always equipped passive skill which encourage different playstyle during each moment of the match

Theme

Each character follows a specific concept and is connected to its realted arena

The characters

 

Izzy is created to be the most user-friendly character. Its abilities don't require a high skill level and have a short recharge time. Moreover, they don't introduce any new mechanics but they just are movement power-ups.

Kleo is created to be a mid-skill level character. She encourages an aggressive playstyle and is made for players who prefer to close fastly a chase.

hooga.png

 

Hooga is created to be a mid-skill level character. He encourages a playstyle focused on tight spaces where a smart timing can be decisive.

uzqlot.png

 

Uzqlot is the hardest character to use. He's made for players who love tricky abilities and prefer a tactical and insidious playstyle.
